Former and current Kuopio residents highly recommend the city as a place to live

Former and current residents are attached to Kuopio: when asked to recommend a city as a place to live, Finns who had lived or currently live in Kuopio gave the city a much higher score than others. Based on overall image, Kuopio received an average overall rating of 8.34 from its current and former residents.

Not only people living in North Savo, but also those in surrounding provinces expressed a willingness to move to Kuopio. When examining the top 5 most popular places to move according to the respondent’s area of residence, Kuopio turned up number one among those living in Eastern Finland.

Kuopio was among the top 5 most popular places to move also among respondents in Northern Finland.

In terms of individual cities, people living in larger cities generally expressed a greater willingness to move to Kuopio.

Kuopio is seen above all as a comfortable place to live and a good place for children to grow

When comparing the aspects affecting the image of various cities, Kuopio was praised especially as a good place for children to grow, a comfortable living environment and a safe city. In previous years, Kuopio has similarly ranked among the top three cities in the category “Good place for children to grow”. 63 percent of the respondents said that this aspect had a positive influence on their view of Kuopio.

In terms of its comfort as a living environment, Kuopio came in fourth, and 65 percent of the respondents indicated that a comfortable living environment had a positive influence on their view of Kuopio.

“Kuopio has used this survey to monitor its success among other large cities already since 2012, when it placed sixth in terms of its overall image. There have been no major changes during this period. At best, Kuopio has been regarded as evoking the fourth most positive overall image. The results of the survey coincide with the results of the brand and image surveys conducted by the city itself,” says Marketing Director of the City of Kuopio Kirsi Soininen.

The survey included Finland’s 61 largest cities and municipalities (with a minimum of 20 000 residents, plus a few municipalities with a population nearing 20 000). The survey was conducted as part of the Finland Today online panel survey where it was answered by 3 101 Finns aged 15–79 in February 2020.
